“What is striking about Too Early At The Party and The Blue Box In The Sky (Dr…Who?) is that each element – the instrumental, vocals and lyricism – make for something powerful on their own but are even stronger when blended together.”
In recent years, multi-awarded self-taught musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer Amaury Laurent Bernier has been giving his listeners a cinematic experience, but in 2025 the artist has given us a taste of an alternative rock sound with two singles Too Early At The Party and The Blue Box In The Sky (Dr…Who?), foreshadowing his upcoming album set to be released in November.
The intro of Too Early At The Party possesses a heavy beat and sturdy vocals, which gradually soften into an instrumental with more soulful and funk undertones. Bernier masters the art of balance between an upbeat production and despondent lyricism Cause I feel so isolated, things are so complicated, walking along a sophisticated melodic trapeze.
The melody’s outro fade-out is executed eloquently, as the line Words are so complicated becomes embedded by the repetition of Things are so complicated and The world is so complicated, revealing layers to Bernier’s analysis of this abstract concept.
Both tracks exhibit figurative language as the artist skilfully plays with semantics. In Too Early At The Party, he notes how Egos are flying around, symbolising the anthropomorphic chaos of the setting. In Blue Box In The Sky, the lyric Oh, it sure makes me wonder, why memories swing like a kite is perhaps more obviously metaphorical, but it superbly describes the delicacy of nostalgia, potentially pointing to the idea of these memories being distant, moreover out of reach.
As for the instrumentation and structure of Blue Box In The Sky, a mellow sound acts as a build-up to the anthemic power pop-rock bliss. The hook All we need is a good time is a stunning harmonisation of vocal and instrumental that ties the melody together fluently and allows for a mellifluously dramatic outro as we hear it for the final time.
