“Through melody and lyrics, through production and music video, Ellis Evason crafts an enticing, emotive atmosphere on Ode To Box.”
Hip-Hop artist Ellis Evason is entering the 2025 music scene with the first single of his trilogy of EPs on the horizon. Since his 2024 release SINS OF THE FATHER, Evason has shifted back towards a theme of heartbreak from a political and religious concept, but at the heart of Ode To Box and the EP he has in store for us, his lyrics remain poetic and his layered sound impassioned.
Ode To Box begins with powerful, maximalist production that presents a hypnotic beat to introduce the vocals. The instrumental traverses across feeling cold and mysterious verses warm and intimate, as Evason is upfront lyrically.
He told me existence is suffering and I was just acting the tourist alludes to the feeling of disconnect with reality and not being able to enjoy the moments you want to most. Evason repeats Could you hype me up? causing the melody to be in a momentary trance-like state, and this effective repetition is a theme you will be hearing much of on the upcoming EP.
The music video begins with a dark room and a lightbulb rocking back and forth. Evason appears on cue for the first line wearing a jacket with arrowheads attached. Following the instrumental interlude, our eyes follow a multitude of close-up scenes.
Be ready for bold instrumentation put to vulnerable verses on these upcoming tracks. If you’re looking for an EP where each song consists of its own concept, but remains cohesive, then turn your head in Ellis Evason’s direction.
