Edoardo Gastaldi, Ostel and Nydia Castellanos Convey Deep Meaning In ‘Waltz of the Dial and Hands’

“There’s a constant atmosphere in ‘Waltz of the Dial and Hands’, consisting of grace and charm, but the actual emotions it illustrates are miscellaneous.”

Award-nominated Modern Classical and Post Classical Music Composer Edoardo Gastaldi never fails to unveil his emotions in his music. And we can’t help but resonate with the emotions displayed on his recent single ‘Waltz of the Dial and Hands’ – an unequivocally thought-provoking and beautiful composition that Gastaldi created with musicians Ostel and Nydia Castellanos.

Chilling sounds enter in the intro. The melody conjures that familiar feeling of watching the cold weather, whether it be rain or thunder, from the warm comfort of your own home. The piano then introduces itself, adding melancholic tones with each note that compliment these chilling sounds ever so enchantingly.

‘Waltz of the Dial and Hands’ is somehow lulling yet invigorating. Tranquil yet stimulating. Gentle yet strong. It explores so many feelings through versatile musical techniques that draw the listener in, and then keep them wanting more.

“This composition is about the depiction of anyone coming to terms with time… with life itself. The music is a conversation between man and time. We always think there is going to be more time. But eventually, we grow aware of the concepts of loss and death. We can only embrace what we have right now, just in this moment. Shaping moments into eternity, we seek truth, something that breaks forth in the midst of impermanence. That’s what life is about, and that’s what our music is about,” said Gastaldi in conversation with Ostel.

I can definitely hear this meaning of understanding the concept of time on a deeper level throughout the song. Perhaps it could link back to that feeling you get watching the weather, but on a more metaphorical level, since you aren’t just studying the weather, but also studying how time flies and how we can’t quite grasp it without dropping it. We think we have it until it’s gone.
