My favourite pair of neoclassical composers Edoardo Gastaldi and Davide Fasiello are back with a new release in which they worked on together. ‘Realignments’ consists of two tracks ‘Lapse’ and ‘Hypostasis’ which both take us on a fabulous ride to introspect our own emotions.
‘Lapse’ opens on high notes (literally and metaphorically. The piano introduces us to a warmth that we crave in music. But not just any warmth. An authentic warmth orchestrated by Gastaldi and Fasiello that invites us to hear more.
The passion advances as the song progresses, initiated by the powerful melody. How the musicians balance the power and elegance here I wish to know. There’s a glow throughout which ignites a spark within us as listeners, allowing our minds to take us wherever it wants to take us while Fasiello and Gastaldi endorse themselves into the brilliant technique displayed here right up until the very end.
“Lapse”, the first of the two tracks is about that moment in which we sat together at the piano for the first approach, and unexpectedly a sort of progressive “tuning” was created which brought about a final alignment. This track really represents the evolution of a resonating path,” say the musicians.
Immediately we are enamoured by the layers of the piano sequences in ‘Hypostasis’. Each layer works with the other so beautifully that it is easy to get lost in the melody itself. Anticipation is built through heightening of notes and shifts in volume, evoking various emotions in the listener. Our emotions drift through the music smoothly, untouched. The piece ends on a subtle sequence not dissimilar to that of ‘Lapse’s, cleverly crafting cyclical structure into the pair of compositions.
“Hypòstasis”, the last track, is dedicated to a concept taken from philosophy. It immediately came to Davide’s mind while thinking of the ideas of coexistence. Hypòstasis sums up the three substances of the intelligible world: the One, Intelligence, and the Soul.”
