Revised Launch Their Sound With Debut EP ‘paper plates’

“It’s always exciting to hear an artist’s debut and how they use their talents to create something of their own, and Revised’s EP ‘paper plates’ lives up to this anticipation.”

Hailing from Bath, the four-piece indie and alternative rock band Revised have been playing gigs and honing their craft before the release of their debut EP. ‘paper plates’ consists of three songs the band have given attentive care to, shown notably in the complex techniques and instrumental combinations.

Title track ‘paper plates’ is most memorable for how it vocally glows with character, shown in how smoothly the tones sway us into the mood of the song. The jangly instrumental that accompanied these vocals abruptly stops with mighty effect. It then slides back in, building tension, smoothly and softly. ‘paper plates’ may end lyrically with ‘I can’t wait to leave, Toss me the keys’ but Revised still have in store an extended instrumental filled with a rich combination of sounds to lead us into ‘not much left to decide’.

“Making paper plates was a huge learning experience for us, both with writing and recording the songs,” the band tell us.

“not much left to decide’ is adorned with a slower tempo than its adjoining track, and the pace of the vocals correspond as such – sung smoothly, one word a lyric. All elements of the song unite to create a melody that feels raw and authentic. Emphasis is placed on the instrumental, with the energy elevated for the last verse.

As Revised reveal ‘what you said’, we notice how they experiment with pitch, proliferating a range of atmospheres and transmitting different feelings from this to the listeners. The repetition of the lyric ‘Breathe in, breathe out’ gives out a meditative feel, contrasting nicely with the upbeat elements of the instrumental to create this fascinating balance.
