Congrats on the release of ‘The Story Of Sun And Moon’. I really admire the technique in the production on the album and the effect this has on the atmosphere. What was the process of producing it like?
Lil Terrestrial: “I’d say the process of producing this album as a whole was very long and thoughtful. This year, love was a big theme in my life, and I wanted to use that and get it across in the music itself. When working on this album I had an overwhelming sense of love being such a persistent force in the universe, and I wanted to turn that into a sound. The theme, and story of the album as a whole is something I’ve wanted to explore since I first started producing.”
How does ‘The Story Of Sun And Moon’ differ from your debut album ‘Voyage’?
Lil Terrestrial: “Unlike my previous album, Voyage, which focused on exploring the unfamiliar, and venturing out, The Story Of Sun And Moon aims to delve deep into what we already know. Taking something as universally known as love and stripping it into its core concepts, to get a better understand on not only ourselves, but the universe as a whole.”
I love the cover art for your singles! Would you say graphology/visuals are significant factors in your music?
Lil Terrestrial: “The visual aspect of the albums and singles I put out are a huge factor for my artistic direction in the sense that they help even more with world building. Because im a producer, there’s only so much of a story I can tell with sound, but the covers and visuals help add just that much more to the themes. Id like to personally thank my favorite cover artist and graphic designer, Lunzer, who has done so many of my favorite cover arts including The Story Of Sun And Moon.”
You’ve said that ‘The Story Of Sun And Moon’ is a love story between two celestial beings. Did you decide you wanted to craft a concept album or did this come about naturally? “
Lil Terrestrial: “Conceptual albums have always been what I am most artistically drawn to. Whether the concept is a story I want to tell, a message I want to send, or a theme I want to express, conceptual albums have just always stuck with me so much. A lot of the concepts I use will mirror different parts of my life, usually taking place around the creation of the album. For example, VOYAGE was made right before I graduated highschool, and therefore explored the concepts of the unknown.”
Do you have a song on the album that is most personal to you?
Lil Terrestrial: “Track 11, “That Love Is The Constant,” is a track I hold extremely close to me. The song itself was made in a time of growing pains. From moving into my own place for the first time, to figuring myself out, the track was a manifestation of the struggles I was going through and the ache that came along with them. The lead melodies are long and drawn out, they almost feel exhausted and haunting. It’s overall just a perfect time capsule of my emotions during that time.”
What do you look for in an artist when collaborating?
Lil Terrestrial: “When searching for albums to collaborate with, I love to find people who do things their own way. Some of my favorite collaborators have had the most unique styles, and beautiful voices. The people I tend to work with usually can handle my out there production with ease, and I just think that’s so impressive. Some of my favorite collaborators have been artists like Handsome Pryce, The Nait Sirk, SMEB, Lexx Stokes, SODI, and some unreleased work with Lil Myaura. While on the topic of collaborators, I’d also love to shout out the mastering engineer, JANGO UU, who’s an insane audio engineer and artist.”
‘The Story Of Sun And Moon’ is a genre-diverse album. Are there currently any specific genres you’d like to experiment with in future? “
Lil Terrestrial: “Going into the future, id love to keep experimenting with the RNB sound. The contrast of the natural instrumentation and structure with the bright or distorted synthesizers creates such a vast soundscape, that you can do so much with.”
