“As NERiMA immerse themselves in their oasis of indie, we become enamoured with this musical enthusiasm interlaced with musical talent, shown in new single Reverence.”
Three-piece band NERiMA – made up of musicians Lexi, Vee and AJ – tease their upcoming album with pop-punk single Reverence. The more you hear from this trio, the more you feel the absolute passion they have for their sound.
The acoustics of Reverence begin with a distant, reverb-drenched sound, spotlighting the vocals; before abruptly shifting into an adrenaline-inducing electric guitar prelude. The heartfelt vocals return, this time with an enlivening energy to match the modification of tempo.
Instrumentally the song is crafted in such a way to build incredible tension. The earnest expression of the lyrics is then unleashed at the chorus, initiated by lyrics And it’s so bright in the limelight can’t you see? And I feel that I’ll be alright out of reach. similar in this sense to the likes of indie-pop/slacker-rock artists Beabadoobee and Beach Bunny.
“Reverence is a song about constantly looking up to the celebrities whose lives seem so
perfect or thought they had a life you’ve always dreamed of, and then the experience of
hearing about how truly unhappy some of these celebrities are with their life, then
wondering how that’s even possible?” stated lead singer and main songwriter Lexi.
She continues; “They all warn you against it and say it’s not what it seems, but you don’t believe them, until you experience the life yourself and finally understand the emptiness.”
This revelation of a deeper meaning adds a new perspective to the lyrics. With such upbeat, instrumentally rich songs, a profound essence amongst the melody can be overlooked. However, NERiMA return to the fainter sound of the intro, intertwining a cyclical structure into Reverence. Here we hear a new version of the chorus; And it’s so bright in the limelight, now I see, But I thought you would be alright out of reach….. The narrator no longer speaks interrogatively but declaratively, with their newfound experience regarding celebrity life.
