Congrats on your new EP release! How does it feel to release ‘Sick Lie’ to the world?
Madisine: “Thank you! It feels great, It’s been a long time coming, It is a project including very old songs of mine so I’m glad It’s finally out.”
“It feels like closing a chapter and getting ready for a new one.”
So you’ve been releasing singles since 2018 – how was the process different in releasing an EP this time?
Madisine: “I’ve released a few singles in 2018 under a different name but back then it wasn’t anything serious. I was putting music out there and telling my friends to go listen to it. It was very much a different mindset, I was more naive and now I’m trying to approach things more seriously.”
“The big difference is finally slowly finding my community of people liking my music and sharing interests in the same artists I like and you know friends and family will support you but in a different way than a total stranger might do, if that makes sense.”
What is your approach to songwriting like?
Madisine: “Just pick up a guitar, play some chords and when the time is right the notes will tell you then when you feel something inside you just go gibberish singing until what you really wanna sing about comes out.”
“Saying it like that sounds weird but It is very normal to me.”
Where do you draw inspiration for your music?
Madisine: “That’s a tough question. I get inspired from a lot of different stuff and situations but mostly I’d say memories.
“I might get to think of someone, of an action, of a detail of my past and it gets me all nostalgic and melancholic and I start writing.”
“So definitely memories.”
What were the main themes you wanted to delve into on ‘Sick Lie’?
Madisine: “The EP is half new songs and half a re-release of old songs I wrote when I was 15 and 16.”
“‘Sick Lie’ was the first song I’ve ever recorded, ‘Liar’ came a few months later.”
“I’ve decided to keep those versions untouched, even though I wanted to change a lot of things, just to keep the identity of who I was. Even though I might not like my past self , how I behaved and my mindset but It was important for me to see the progress from an angry teenage kid to a trying-to-be adult.”
“‘Live with It’ is one of the newest ones, a song that’s basically a reflection of me looking back at the person I was and what had changed within me, what died and what stayed the same.”
“I feel like the theme of it all is basically me just struggling with human interactions and at the same time the pursuit of them.”
“There’s also a lot of stories of people close to me that shared their own personal struggles in songs like My Truth and also Let Go.”
Have you seen any artists live and is this something you pursue/would like to pursue yourself?
Madisine: “Last month I saw ‘The Smile’ live and they are truly the greatest. It’s my second time seeing them live and I’ll never get tired of it. I don’t even have words to describe how good that show was.”
“I also recently saw Fontaines D.C live and they killed it, It was such a good show, the energy was amazing, both bands are so inspiring.”
“It is definitely something I wanna pursue, with the Madisine project I’ve recently formed a band and we just started playing our first shows and It was really cool, I really enjoyed it and I wanna do more and more.”
Which opportunities are you looking towards next in the music industry?
Madisine: “Release more music, a lot of new music and yeah going on a mini tour would be nice so we’ll work on that.”
“Thank you for your time and for this interview.”
